I decided that in order to determine whether  Poppy, Pru and myself could actually undertake a journey from John O' Groats to Lands End, we would have a to have a 'test run'. The journey from Crawley to Glastonbury and back was decided upon.
On April 28th 2002 we left Crawley for the first leg of the 280 Mile journey.
Due to the nature of transport we were not able to use dual carriage-ways and so I estimated that the journey would take us between 3 1/2 and 4  weeks. It turns out I  was right, as we returned on May 23rd.

The test drive showed that people along the way really enjoyed seeing a horse & cart making this sort of trip. The response from the public was extremely encouraging. Help of all kinds was offered daily and the opportunity for charitable fundraising was obvious.
