Scrapbook ~ Wildlife walks throughout the year
Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st November 2021
Fan Hir, Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn, Brecon Beacons, South Wales Our annual weekend in the mountains at Tyle Morgrug with the County Mountaineering team. We use this time to have some fun and to assess people who wish to get a hill walking permit so that they can take young people from the Scout Association into the hills and to
supervise young people taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
On Saturday I took a couple of people out into the Black Mountains and assessed their navigation ability as well as their ability to keep people safe outdoors. We went completely off piste searching for waterfalls before making our way up to the lake at the foot of Fan Hir.
On Sunday most of us went for a hike over the three main mountains making up the Brecon beacons - Corn Du, Pen y Fan (886m) and Cribyn. We had excellent clear weather but temps around zero, which went even lower when the wind blew.
On getting back to the bunkhouse I had a quick shower, packed and then set off for a 4 hour blast homeward on the bike.
