Big garden Birdwatch in Goff's Park Crawley
This weekend was the time for the annual "Big Garden Birdwatch" that
is run by the RSPB. Last year over 400,000 people took part (including us). All
you had to do was look for all of the birds that come into your garden or local
park in an hour. You had to record the highest number of each species that you
could see at one time, so that birds were not recorded twice (or more). We chose
to survey Goff's Park pond between 10.30 am and 11.30am. We did quite well and
found 16 species.
Mallard 23
Magpie 3
Coal tit 1
Wood pigeon 10
Nuthatch 1
Kestrel 1
Blue tit 2
Mandarin duck 8
Great spotted woodpecker 1
Carrion crow 2
Blackbird 1
Moorhen 1
Chaffinch 1
Long tailed tits 2
Great tit 1
Wren 1
Unfortunately when it came to uploading the data to the RSPB database we found
that Mandarin duck was not allowed as it is an introduced species. We could not
put in the kestrel either as it was flying at a distance away from our survey
area.
A couple of snaps of our
"patch"!
