Cam rebuild
Finally everything was
in place for the repairs to start. I had all the new parts I needed, I had all
the special tools required, the garage was clean and tidy and Dave was feeling
much better after his recent surgery.
LET'S DO IT!

What was left of the outer bearing first needed to be removed.

Dave cut a small bar of steel.....

.....held it in place inside the broken bearing..

...welded it in place..

..like so..

...and used the bar as a purchase so that he could push the bearing out with the
press. Ta da!

Then the two new outer bearings were easily pressed in.

Using the alignment marks..

..and home made tensioner pins..

..we got the new cams connected to the cam plate.

Next I had to take the lifters out so that we could reach the inner bearings.
Then, using the tools generously lent by Butch, we were easily able to remove
the old inner cam bearings..

and install the new ones. The tools worked perfectly.

Healthy new bearings, mmmmm!

Then it was just a case of carefully putting it all back together without
missing out any parts.

By end of play today, all the repairs were completed successfully and the cam
section was back together.
Tomorrow we may be in a position to be able to start the engine (touch wood).
