Owlbeech Wood
Bit of a lie-in this morning, so we didn't get to nearby Owlbeech Wood in
Horsham until about 1pm. This was our first visit and we were surprised that we
hadn't been there before. The place is surprisingly extensive and despite being
so close to Horsham town centre, was very quiet and peaceful. It was another
fungi day today with the highlight being 2 stinkhorns spotted by eagle-eye
Gill.
Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria)
The stinkhorns give off a strong sweet smell that attracts
flies. These help the fungi spread its spores around a wide area.
The stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus)
A Bay Bolete (edible and tasty!)
Amethyst deceiver (Loccaria amethystina)
Yellow Staghorn (Calocera viscosa)
