Scrapbook ~ Wildlife walks throughout the year
Saturday 2nd July 2011
Plumpton Station - East Chiltington - Streat - Ditchling - Ditchling Beacon -
Blackcap - Lewes.
11 and a bit miles.
Our previous walks in
this area have been planned with hill walking on the Downs in mind, which of
course is great, but which meant that the churches at Ditchling and Streat were
always shut by the time we got there. Today things would be different as we were
going to visit these villages first and have an evening finish to our walk up on
the downs.
As Robbie Burns so eloquently put it, "The
best laid schemes o' mice an' men, gang aft agley". Things went agley (awry)
for us straight away as Streat church was locked and Ditchling church had a
wedding on. So that was that then! All we had left to entertain us was;
brilliant sunshine, unbelievable views, animals, birds insects and flowers. We
suppose that will have to do!
Spotted Flycatcher
Robin's Pincushion.
Musk thistle.
Duke of Edinburgh sign-in sheets.
The first team of hikers through weren't hungry or tired, the second were a bit
hungry and ate their lunch.
The third were tired, hungry and had already eaten their lunch!
Barley
A Yellowhammer with a beak full of insects.
Take the time to read
the
countryside code for yourself and please stick to it at all times.
