Eastbourne - Beachy Head - Birling Gap - Seven Sisters - Exceat
6 miles
As Gill had missed out on seeing the wryneck when I went to Beachy head with
Simon, we decided to go there again on the train to see if we could find it. We
didn't! We did have a great view of a Peregrine though, which was soaring directly
above us.
The weather was really windy up there and the air was full of foam from the sea
which was being blown up and over the cliffs. Earlier that morning a tornado was
seen just off the coast of Brighton.
So, as a birdwatching expedition it was quite uneventful. There were however
hoards of fungi up there including many, many fairy rings.
Just before we caught the bus back to Eastbourne (yes, we were being very lazy)
the heavens opened and a real monsoon storm started up. Luckily the bus turned
up before we came close to drowning.
It was rough weather around the lighthouse today.
You can't tell from this picture that the wind was strong
enough to blow you off your feet.
It was a real festival of fungi up there.
Siamese twins.
We could see the deluge coming at us from across the sea.
We had to dash for the bus.
